María del Puerto Morales is Professor at the Institute of Material Science in Madrid (ICMM/CSIC) since 2017 and the leader of the MaMBIO group. She got her degree in Chemistry by the University of Salamanca in 1989 and her PhD in Material Science from the Madrid Autonomous University in 1993. From 1994 to 1996, she worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Systems of the University of Wales (UK) and got her permanent position at the ICMM/CSIC in 2000. Lidera el Grupo de Materiales para Medicina y Biotecnología (MaMBIO) del ICMM. At the CSIC, participates in the Global Health Platform and is the advisor coordinator of the Nanomed_CSIC Hub, created in 2021.

Her research activities are focused on the area of nanotechnology, in particular in the synthesis and characterization of uniform magnetic nanoparticles for biomedicine, and its performance in biomolecule separation, NMR imaging, drug delivery and hyperthermia. In last five years she started a new line on the use of magnetic nanoparticles in environmental remediation and catalysis. She has authored several patents (5) and more than 290 articles (h=64, >16000 citations). She has been the principal investigator from the CSIC of two European-funded research projects in the 7FP (Multifun and NanoMag) and she is now participating in a FET OPEN, HOTZYMES (2019-2022), a RISE as PI of the CSIC, NESTOR 2021-2025, and a NSF project (IMAGINE 2021-2023).
