Miguel Algueró, PhD in Physics (UAM, 1998), joined ICMM in 2001 after having enjoyed a postdoctoral Marie Curie Fellowship at Queen Mary University of London. He has a multidisciplinary profile that span Material Science and Technology and Applied Physics. His field of expertise are ferroic materials and related coupling phenomena, mainly ferroelectrics for piezoelectric applications, from which he has approached the emerging field of magnetoelectric multiferroics. His activity covers both ceramic bulk and thin film materials, processing and properties of smart electroactive oxides with tailored functional responses for piezoelectric and magnetoelectric technologies like energy harvesting. Among major contributions, studies of ceramic texturing for very high piezoelectric response, nanostructuring effects on properties, or the development of environmentally-friendly magnetoelectric composites could be stood out.

He has long experience in leading projects in the frame of the successive national or state programmes since first MAT2002-00463, all with thematic on piezoelectrics or magnetoelectrics. He has also signed technological support contracts with foreign companies, and filed several European patent applications regarding new piezoelectric ceramic materials, chemically and microstructurally engineered for specific applications. Miguel Algueró has been Spanish representative in the Management Committee of the ESF COST Action MP0904 (Single- and Multiphase Ferroics and Multiferroics with Restricted Geometries) and coordinator of the working group on Novel Ferroelectric Nanostructures. He has organized symposia within MCARE 2016 and EUROMAT 2013, and has co-edited the book Nanoscale Ferroelectrics and Multiferroics: Key Processing and Characterization Issues, and Nanoscale Effects, released in 2016 by John Wiley & Sons Ltd (ISBN: 978-1-118-93575-0). Between 2014 and 2017 he was Pesquisador Visitante Especial at Departamento de Física of Universidade Federal de São Carlos (Brazil).
