"Made to order"

Mr. Guillaume Schull. Institute of Experimental and Applied Physics at University of Kiel (Germany)

Technical Description:
Moiré-like effect induces long range orientational order within self-assembled clusters of C60 molecules on Au(111). An unprecedented gigantic unit cell containing 49 molecules organized in a (7 x 7) superstructures is observable. Strikingly similar to the (7 x 7) reconstruction of Si(111), the unit cell can be divided in a faulted and an unfaulted half. (Tunnel current = 0.1 nA, sample voltage = 1.5V).
