Lanzarote, Canary Islands, Spain
Social events:
A
welcome reception will take place at Hotel
Hesperia Dorada Sunday 20th starting at 19:00 pm.
On
Wednesday we will have the conference excursion. We will enjoy the exotic
volcanic landscape of the island with two possible choices:
walking for about three hours in the
Parque Natural de
los Volcanes (google
map) or a bus tour around National Park of Timanfaya. For trekking be sure
to bring appropriate shoes, a hat and sun protection.
In the following there is a brief description of the possible choices:
1. By bus: We will visit Timanfaya National Park stopping by on
striking geological features of considerable scientific value. We will
take a short walk around
emblematic landscapes such as "El Golfo" (The gulf) a semicircular
volcano crater with its famous "Laguna verde" (green lagoon) sea water
partially filling the base of the crater. We will also visit "Los
Hervideros" (Boiling Waters) a chain of caves and blow holes. Finally
we will have a photo in the Salinas viewpoint.
2. On foot: We will walk in the Parque Natural de los Volcanes
about three hours through Guaco root across
lava flows (do not forget the trekking or sport shoes!) where we will get into
the spectacular Raven crater (4 km). We will also take a walk around
the "Montaña Colorada" (2.5 km). We will finish our excursion having
the singular local wine in a wine cellar situated in "La Geria". The
vineyards are planted in the middle of the volcanic-like surroundings
giving rise to a unique landscape.
Both excursions start at 14:30 and end at 19:15 at the conference Hotel.
The NGSCES2010 participants' choice has to be known before 30 of May.
