Magnetic amorphous ribbons

In Chilly Block Melt Spinning, the material is melted in a quartz crucible that is polished down with silica paper so as to obtain a nozzle of internal diameter typically ranging between 500 and 900 mm, and the molten alloy is ejected through it by gas pressure, generally argon. The free jet of molten metal impinges on the surface of a rapidly rotating cupper wheel where it forms an effectively stationary puddle from the underside of which a ribbon of melt is extracted and then solidified. In order to control the amorphicity and quality of the final ribbon, the nozzle diameter, wheel speed, chamber underpressure and ejection pressure need to be carefully controlled.
