RUNNING RESEARCH PROJECTS

-         “Acoustic and thermodynamicla properties at low temperatures on molecular glasses” Ref.: BFM2003-04622 /FISI

Goals

To perform exhaustive investigations on the acoustic properties (sound velocity) at low temperatures and about the glass transition temperature of several physical systems showing different degree of disorder.  Also pressure dependent investigations are planned.

These studies will be performed by using High Resolution Brillouin Spectroscopy.

Ethanol, 1-Propanol and 2-Propanol, mixed systems alcohol-water, Glycerol and Amber are the main subjects of research.

These studies will help to gain more insight in the nature of the fundamental phenomenon of the glass transition.

-         “Thin films and heterostructures for magnetoelectronic and acoustoelectronic devices: Interface, substrate and finite size effects on their properties” (Ref.: MAT-2003-01880)

Goals

Ä     Growing of different Piezoelectric films and crystals with different textures using 3 different deposition techniques from the vapor phase: PLD, RF-sputtering and evaporation with electrons.

Ä     PLD Growing of PLT under different oxygen atmospheres.

Ä     Characterization of the (SEM) and nano (AFM & TEM) texture of the films.

Ä     Characterization of the transverse piezoelectric response (Interferometry & EFM).

Ä     Control of the elastic properties within the film plane (SAW filter) by means of High Resolution Brillouin Spectroscopy.
