I am a Research Scientist at the Materials Science Institute of Madrid (ICMM), which belongs to the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). I work at the Nanocarma research group, within the Department of Energy, Environment and Sustainable Technologies.
My research is centered on the optical properties of materials and the use of Raman spectroscopy and other optical techniques for the characterization of materials to correlate the micro- and nanostructure with the macroscopic properties. I have published about 110 research papers, which has been cited in more than 3200 works. I am the co-author of 3 monographic books and the author of 7 contributed chapters in technical books and 3 in popularization books.
I received my Ph. D. in Physics at the Autonomous University of Madrid in 1986. Then I stayed for a total of 4 years at the University of Hamburg (Germany), the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center in New York (USA), and the Max-Planck Institute for Solid State Research in Stuttgart (Germany). Since 1988 I belong to the scientific staff of the Materials Science Institute of Madrid (ICMM), where I started the Raman Microscopy Lab in 1995.
